In March 2011, the UK Government announced the details of their Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).
The Renewable Heat Incentive is designed to provide financial support that encourages individuals, communities and businesses to switch from using fossil fuel for heating, to renewables such as solar thermal, ground Source, air Source and wood fuel.
The Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme has now been announced and you can now make an application.
It is a government cash back scheme which subsidises this technology and aims to encourage take up of renewable energy in the UK. Payments are made by the power supplier to the customer for all units generated.
You can earn 21p for every unit (or kWh) of electricity you produce. This cash back scheme is tax free, inflation proof and lasts for 25 years from the date of your installation. Your solar PV panels could be supplying you with 50% of your electricity for free. Any surplus generated will be sold back to the grid at 3.1 kWh.
There has never been a better time to invest in solar panels for your home.
Solar PV panel now delivers both sustainable choices for your energy needs whilst also offering an attractive investment. The reasons to have solar panels and a solar pv system on your home have never been clearer:
The size of your solar PV panel system will depend on how much power you need for your home, what financial and C02 return you would like to make, the type of solar PV panels used, the roof space available and your budget. Typical systems cover 15 to 30 square metres and usually have an output of between 2kWp (kilowatts peak) and 4kWp of electrical power (kWp - solar PV panels are referred to in terms of the amount of electricity they generate in full sunlight). A typical system could meet around half of the average household's annual electricity needs for lighting and appliances.
